Fall 2024 – Newspaper
This project was developed for the prompt, “I can’t stop thinking about [blank].” At the time, I had been thinking a lot about the internet and how easily its content can be manipulated.
After reading several articles to find inspiration and text for this project, I was drawn to the mystery and horror of Search Engine Optimization. This article from the Verge and this personal blog both vividly described the control search engine optimization experts have over the internet and how they are manipulating everything we see online. I was really fascinated by the psychological effects of this technology.
Those two articles became my source of text and also largely informed the scary, intense tone of the newspaper. The image and typography treatments were created through distorting and manipulating found imagery and my own photography. I was also inspired by the aesthetics of retro pixel art and horror video games.
